Atomos has unveiled its latest innovation, the Shogun AV-19, a state-of-the-art 19-inch 4K HDR monitor-recorder-switcher. This versatile unit is engineered to meet the demanding requirements of professional live production, broadcast, and video village operations. By seamlessly integrating multi-camera switching, ISO recording, and sophisticated monitoring functionalities, the Shogun AV-19 presents a complete and rugged 'Monitor-Record-Switch' solution within a 7RU rack-mountable design. This new offering aims to empower production teams with precise real-time visual feedback, fostering confident decision-making in dynamic production environments.
Designed for both studio and on-location broadcasting, the Shogun AV-19 boasts the capacity to simultaneously capture up to four isolated SDI camera feeds, alongside a fifth program output. Its expansive, color-accurate 4K HDR DCI-P3 display ensures that directors, camera operators, and production crews can maintain a clear and comprehensive view of complex multi-camera setups. According to Peter Barber, CEO of Atomos, the Shogun AV-19 is conceived as the ultimate all-in-one, rack-mountable device for contemporary live production, offering unparalleled performance, reliability, and adaptability with features like quad-channel ISO recording, live switching, industry-standard codecs, and NDI® HX3 connectivity. Its robust construction allows for easy integration into broadcast racks or protective road cases for mobile or film production.
The Shogun AV-19 facilitates professional recording and playback through its support for Apple ProRes, ProRes RAW, and Avid DNx codecs, compatible with SDI or HDMI sources and resolutions up to 8Kp60 with 10-bit 4:2:2 color depth. Media can be stored on internal CFexpress cards or external high-speed USB-C devices, providing ample flexibility for data-intensive workflows. Beyond its primary functions, the unit also serves as a secure backup recorder, an instant review station, and a confidence monitor, further streamlining production processes.
Atomos has equipped the Shogun AV-19 with an extensive array of monitoring features, including EL Zone™ false color, focus peaking, waveform displays, Log-to-LUT viewing, frame guides, safe areas, anamorphic de-squeeze, HDR-to-Rec.709 conversion, and quad-view monitoring. The device supports LUTs and real-time color pipelines, guaranteeing accurate color representation across various HDR, PQ, and Rec.709 workflows. This comprehensive suite of tools ensures precise framing, exposure, and focus, even in challenging lighting conditions, providing a critical advantage in live production settings.
Connectivity options are robust, featuring 2 x 12G-SDI and 2 x 3G-SDI inputs, a 12G-SDI output, and HDMI in/out for flexible signal routing. Audio capabilities are equally impressive, with two balanced XLR inputs and outputs, complete with 48V phantom power, per-channel gain control, meters, and frame-accurate audio delay. The integrated NDI® HX3 send and receive functionality enables ultra-low-latency video, audio, and metadata transmission over standard Ethernet, facilitating IP-based production workflows and remote monitoring. Two USB-C ports support high-speed external storage and camera control, while 4-pin XLR inputs provide flexible DC or battery power options, making the AV-19 suitable for both fixed studio installations and mobile broadcast operations.
The user experience is enhanced by intuitive touchscreen controls and six user-definable function buttons, granting operators immediate access to frequently used features such as monitoring tools, playback modes, LUTs, or anamorphic de-squeeze. Its rugged 19-inch aluminum chassis is engineered for durability, making it ideal for road case deployment, studio racks, and other mission-critical environments. The Shogun AV-19 is now available for pre-order, with shipments anticipated by the end of March, at a price point of $2,099 (or €1,899), excluding local taxes or fees.
The Atomos Shogun AV-19 stands out as a sophisticated and integrated solution for professional video production. Its blend of high-resolution monitoring, advanced recording capabilities, and versatile switching functionality positions it as an essential tool for broadcast and live event professionals. With its comprehensive feature set and robust design, the AV-19 is poised to optimize workflows and deliver superior visual fidelity in any demanding production scenario.
