Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has downplayed the likelihood of wide receiver Tyreek Hill rejoining the team, following Hill's release from the Miami Dolphins. Hill's recent season was cut short by a significant knee injury, raising questions about his immediate playing future and any potential NFL comeback.
The possibility of Hill returning to his former team emerged after the Miami Dolphins decided to part ways with the eight-time Pro Bowl wide receiver. Hill suffered a torn ACL and dislocated knee during a game against the New York Jets in late September, an injury that ended his season prematurely. This development left many speculating about his next move, including a potential return to Kansas City, where he previously enjoyed a successful tenure.
When questioned about such a reunion, Coach Reid indicated that Hill's health is currently the most significant factor. "I don't even know if Tyreek is healthy right now to do anything," Reid remarked, acknowledging that Hill is diligently working on his recovery. While the team considers various possibilities, Reid emphasized that there are no active plans for Hill's return at this time, reiterating that the focus remains on Hill's rehabilitation to get him back to playing condition.
Hill himself has provided updates on his recovery, mentioning during a Twitch stream that his healing process is progressing well, although another surgical procedure is still anticipated. Before his injury, Hill had participated in four games this season, recording 21 receptions for 265 yards and one touchdown. He spent four seasons with the Dolphins after an impactful six-year run with the Chiefs from 2016 to 2021, where he earned first-team All-Pro honors three times and amassed significant receiving yardage and touchdowns.
The Chiefs' passing game faced challenges last season, ranking 16th in the league, with young wideouts Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy struggling with consistent production and availability. Despite these issues, the immediate future for a Tyreek Hill return to Kansas City appears to be on hold, primarily due to his ongoing recovery from a severe knee injury.
