Notably, Yourkovich will continue serving as an assistant high school principal, showcasing his commitment to both education and sports.
Yourkovich expressed that his passion for basketball never waned over the years. With two decades of coaching under his belt, he decided to seize the opportunity when it arose. Yourkovich boasts an impressive record from his tenure as the girls' basketball coach at Harrison Central, spanning 13 seasons. Under his guidance, the Huskies clinched two Ohio Division III sectional championships and reached district semifinals twice. Additionally, they claimed consecutive OVAC Championships in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Recognized for his excellence, he received accolades such as the Associated Press Ohio Eastern District Division III Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2021, and the District V Coach of the Year in 2014.
Transitioning from coaching girls to boys, Yourkovich anticipates minimal challenges. He believes that strong relationships with athletes remain paramount, regardless of gender. “Once they know you are on their side, they will respond to you,” he explained. Furthermore, his familiarity with the students within the school setting ensures a smooth adaptation process.
